Photocopy and Scanning multiple copies for distribution

Anglia Ruskin has signed the Copyright Licencing Agency (CLA) Higher Education Photocopying and Scanning Licence. This permits the making of multiple photocopies and the scanning of extracts of books and journal (Library only) to support enrolled students on a course of study.

The CLA licence allows to be photocopies or scanned
5% or One chapter of a book
5% or one article of a journal
5% or on paper of one set of conference proceedings
5% or one report of a single case from a report of judicial proceedings
5% of an anthology of short stories/poems or one short story/poem of not more than 10 pages

Photocopying
Multiple copies can made so that each student enrolled on a course of study plus their tutor can legally have their own copy of an article or book extract

Staff and students can be make and receive copies

Scanning
The CLA licence allows certain material to be scanned for digital distribution to specific cohorts of students enrolled on a course of study. Scanning can only be done by the University Library on your behalf.

Only books, journals and magazines published in the UK can be scanned except those on the excluded list

The same limits apply as to what can be scanned as what can be photocopied

The document can only be accessed via WebCT or emailed directly to the students enrolled on the course of study. Scanned documents must not be stored on open resources such as staff websites

The Licence does not cover copies of E-books and e-Journals. You must comply with the terms of the licence agreement. Contact the Library if you have any queries.

If you still wish to have an extract of a book or journal article scanned but it does not comply with the Licence you can still make a request to your Library Subject Team and they will send your request to Heron, a body that will seek copyright clearance from the publisher. It should be noted that a request can be rejected.
