What is outside the scope of the Licence?
- Printed Music: refer to the Music Publishers Association Code of Fair Practice
- Maps, Charts or books of tables: The Ordnance Survey has its own licensing scheme for OS maps
- Public Examination Papers: You will need to seek permission from individual exam boards
- Workbooks, Work cards and assignment sheets: They are for "once-only" use
- Privately owned documents: issued for tuition purposes and limited to fee paying clientele
- Newspapers: Refer to the Newspaper Licensing Agency (NLA)
- Industrial House Journals: Primarily for distribution to employees
- Copying not permitted publications
- Publications in the "List of Excluded Categories and Excluded Works"
- Works published outside the "Mandating Territories": Mandating territories have entered into reciprocal arrangements.
- Works published by non "Participating US Publishers"
- Unpublished Material: Dissertations, Company Reports
What legislation covers copyright?
These two Acts of Parliament form the basis of UK copyright law:
- Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988
- Copyright (Visually Impaired Persons) Act 2002

British Copyright Council – a series of downloadable information sheets about literary copyright, designs, trademarks and patents
The UK Copyright Service provides copyright registration for original works by writers, musicians, artists, designers, software providers, authors, companies, organisations and individuals. Their information pages deal with laws, infringement, notices, common questions and other issues and include fact sheets dealing with common copyright matters.
The Copyright Circle can provide access to considerable experience in copyright matters of all kinds, gained over the last 19 years. The owner, Graham Cornish, has a world-wide reputation in copyright matters, has written extensively on the subject and presented papers at numerous conferences.

The Copyright Licensing Agency Ltd. (CLA) is a non profit-making company that licenses organisations for photocopying and scanning from magazines, books and journals. Anglia Ruskin University participates in this scheme.

Ordnance Survey
Open University. This license allows the off-air recording of OU broadcasts and their uncut replay for non-commercial educational use only. Programmes may be recorded by ICT Services on request, and the resulting copies must be held in the library.
Organisation representing songwriters, composers and music publishers, and licenses businesses and individuals to use recorded music in their business, product or project in the most effective way.
