This section contains information for teaching staff.The University Library seeks to provide appropriate information services to students and staff and to support the development of skills required to search and evaluate those resources effectively.
In order for this to happen, good and effective links between the faculties and the Library are essential to ensure that we understand faculty requirements and developments when planning our resource allocation. In this way faculties can derive maximum benefit from University Library services and resources.
It is also essential that the Library is able to contribute to the planning and implementation of learning & teaching strategies, curriculum development, and programme validation and review, in order to ensure integration of University Library services within the curriculum.
Our Faculty Liaison Librarians are senior professionals whose main focus is to develop a partnership with faculties on an individual basis.
Faculties can help the Library fulfil its role by:
- Consulting with library staff at an early stage in the planning of new modules and programmes
- Ensuring module guides are updated with accurate recommended reading and resource lists with details of how to access the material.(We suggest using the library’s reading list template)
- Supplying the library with latest module reading lists and student numbers to ensure that the required material is available in the library when needed.
- Working with library staff to ensure that their students acquire information skills training at a time and level appropriate to their needs preferably by formally embedding training in the curriculum.
- Working with the library in the development of its Reading Resources Strategy, the aim of which is to produce confident, independent learners
- Including Faculty Liaison Librarians in Faculty and Departmental communications, and in invitations to relevant meetings and presentations
