Construction of Houses Films

Use this introductory guide to learn more about the Construction Films available to you as an Anglia Ruskin student.

Available to you are the following themes:

All themed documentary films have been developed and published as part of the video project by the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of the West of England (UWE).

The advantage is that the films can be viewed at your own discretion and learned at your own pace.



The Construction of Houses Series:

  • These films are aimed at students and trainees that are involved in the study, development, construction, management, and surveying of houses.
  • The films are designed to introduce the viewer to the evolution, practice and principles of domestic building construction.
  • The films are based on The Construction of Houses, and understanding housing defects.
  • Each film (usually less than 30 minutes in length) traces the development and evolution of individual building elements, describes materials and techniques, and explains generally accepted good practice.

The Building History and Building Conservation Series:

  • Documentary films concentrating on the history of building and their conservation, Each film (usually less than 30 minutes in length)
  • Many of the films in this series have been privately sponsored ‘Iron’, for example, sponsored by D.R. Conservation and ‘Bricks and Brick making’ sponsored by the Brick Development Association.
