How do I join the University Library?
No need – if you are a registered student of the university you are automatically a member of the library and you can start using the library straight away.
If you are a member of staff you will need to contact us so that we can create a library account for you.

Our membership page will tell you more.

Don't I need a library card?
No, your university ID card is your Library card - it includes your 14 digit Library Barcode Number starting with 28062.

Where are the libraries?
We have four site libraries at Cambridge, Chelmsford, Fulbourn and Peterborough. Your membership allows you to use any of them.

Their addresses and other contact details are on the front page of the library website

When are the libraries open?
The libraries are open long hours, including 24 hour opening at Cambridge and Chelmsford sites, but times vary a little from site to site and also between semester and vacation time. View up to date information on opening hours

What will I find in the libraries?
Each library is a bit different and you'll need to explore the one you use most to find out everything. All have a wide range of resources; books, journal, DVDs, music scores, CDs and newspapers. These traditional services are complemented by a Digital Library of online resources including electronic journals and E-books.

We also offer a range of spaces and facilities including provision for group work and discussion, individual silent study, use of multi-media, networked PCs, wireless connectivity for laptops and standard IT applications.

I want to use the online resources of the library – how do I access them?
In a variety of places via the library website. When accessing the Digital Library, ebooks and journals for example, you will be asked to login. To do this you need to use your University Login username (e.g. ab1 or abc101) and password to login. This is the same login used for e-mail, My.Anglia, the VLE and to access university PCs.

All I want to do is renew my library books, can I do this online?
Yes, go to Check Your Library Account from the home page of the library website and follow the instructions from there. Find out more about renewing your books and other library resources

Are there lots of rules in using the library?
Just a few, we try to keep them to a minimum:
  • Please be mindful of other library users and their need to study in a peaceful environment
  • Please put your mobile into silent mode whilst in the Library
  • Any lidded drink is allowed in the Library
  • We would ask you to clear up after you and throw away all used drink containers in the bins provided
  • The University Libraries are divided into zones for different types of study, we ask that you use these appropriately
