Do I need to book to go onto a computer?
No need to book as long as you are a registered student, then you can use the computer facilities as you require.

To register you need to access e-Vision

Our free wireless internet services is not available to members of the public. But it is available free of charge to visitors visiting our University on official business, are attending a University event, or who are covered by recognised reciprocal access arrangements. A username and password is needed for access, which you can obtain from either the Cambridge or Chelmsford IT Help Desks or from the library at Fulbourn.



How do I login to the computers?
This information will be provided in the induction pack you would have received. It can also be obtained from the e-vision system which you accessed to register with the University and here is a link to e-Vision



I would like to print - Is that possible?
Yes, all Library Computers are networked to printers.



Is printing free?
Printing is 5p per black and white sheet and 30p per colour sheet.

Can I Print in A5 or A3?
The Library printers do not use A5 or A3 paper. Students are advised to go to the Digital Copy Services located within Cambridge or Chelmsford campus



If I visit the library after staff have gone home and print in colour where can I collect it?
As colour printing is controlled due to the cost, it requires a member of IT staff to release the print job and therefore you would have to return the next day.



I would like to print from my memory stick or floppy disk. Is that possible?
Yes all Library computers can accommodate peripheral devices.



Can I print with my laptop?
Not currently, work would need to be saved onto a memory stick first, and then work could be printed from a library computer



Can I print my CAD drawing?
Cad drawings can only be printed out if saved as a PDF format via the Faculty machine that they were created on. The IT help desk are unable to Convert CAD drawings



Can I access the Internet from library computers?
Yes students will be able to use the internet via the Library computers by login on using your computer use name and further details can be found:- Student account Information



What if I would like to use a laptop to connect to the Internet?
Wifi access is provided and most laptops and Macs will connect to the Open-access network.

How do I login to my email?
This is the same information that you would use when logging in onto the library computers. The website for email is My.Anglia

Can I send to external people using my student email?
Yes, The Anglia Ruskin email system will send emails to any valid email address.



Do I need to abide by any acceptable user policy when using the email system?
Yes, as is common practice our email system requires users to use it in a way that does not offend or is used to forward obscene material. The User guidelines can be found here, Email Guidelines and it is important that you are aware of them.



Can I forward emails to my personal account?
Yes, this is possible by setting up a rule. The instructions to help you do this are here:- Forwarding an Email



I would like to add my Anglia Ruskin email account into my home/workplace Outlook as another mailbox Software
Unfortunately this is currently not possible. All Student email needs to checked via the website My.Anglia



Will I be able to use Word?
Yes, all library computers have a full Microsoft Office 2003 suite installed, which includes Word and Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher



Can I use Word 2007 on the computers?
Yes, all library computers can open later versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.



What about Microsoft Works?
At the moment you will need to save the original file as Microsoft Word. The IT help desk have the ability to convert files as well.



I use OpenOffice as my main software. Can I still work on these at the library?
The only way that you can work on these documents is to save the original into a word format. IT Help Desk staff have the ability to convert documents if necessary. what the IT Help desk can do



Are the computers protected with Anti-virus software?
Yes, we use Sophos which is updated overnight.



I need to use Cad or Gaming Software in the Library
The library pc’s are for generally used software such as the Microsoft suite. Any specialised software such as CAD, CAM or Gaming Design software is not available and you are best advised to seek information from your faculty.
