Collection Management Policy

Executive Summary

The Collection Management Policy has been designed to provide guidance for the systematic development, selection, maintenance and management of information resources within Anglia Ruskin University Library. It ensures that the resources we select and manage are relevant, support the curriculum, meet the needs of our community and represent good value for money.

The library supports our University's strategic objectives by ensuring that students and staff have seamless and timely access to a wide range of library services, excellent learning support and high quality information resources.

The process of selecting resources for the library is a co-operative partnership between academic staff and library staff. The reading resources template, accessible via the module guide in the VLE, enables staff to identify relevant resources with additional annotated information to assist students accessing the material. If there is a key text this is indicated and students are strongly urged to purchase this. More information on the Reading Resources Strategy is provided in the full version of this document.

Information resources can be in many formats including print, multi-media or digital. When possible, we purchase digital versions because they provide wider access and save space.

The policy sets out criteria by which library resources will be selected or de-selected and commits us to the continuous review of library materials to ensure that the collections are relevant, up-to-date, cost efficient and in good physical condition.

Access to resources not held within our collections is provided by using document delivery, Interlibrary loan services and participation in collaborative schemes which allow our staff and students to use other university libraries.

We will review and update the policy document on an annual basis to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our academic community.
