Citation / Referencing

INTRODUCTION
  • Introduction
When submitting written work, it is essential for any sources used in its preparation to be accurately cited. A clear and consistent style is needed to ensure that those reading your work can find the sources you have quoted to follow up your arguments, or to verify quotations. The links below explain the Harvard Referencing System, because “ Senate had agreed that our University standard referencing in written work, as far as possible, should be the Harvard Referencing System” (Undergraduate student handbook, Conduct in assessment, Coursework).
Taught postgraduates are “…recommended to use the Harvard Referencing System” although “…in certain disciplines it is recognised that different referencing and bibliographic systems are used. The advice and guidance of the supervisor(s) should be sought on this by a candidate” (Presentation and submission of projects… p. 13).
Anglia Ruskin Law School now uses the Oscola referencing system (see below) rather than the Harvard system.
