A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. Celebrating women's achievements and increasing visibility help to forge a gender equal world. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.

At ARU we have a fantastic programme of five public events to celebrate International Women’s Day this March, ranging from the impact of medical research and gender to the success of women in previously male dominated arenas such as football and engineering. All lectures are free to join just click the links.

The first speaker Dr Havovi Chichger, Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science, ARU, had this to say about the role libraries and literature have played in her career.

‘As scientists, we rely on publications and literature to support and communicate our research. Throughout my career, having access to good literature resources has been key in the preparation of documents, grants, reports and publications. Libraries provide a fantastic range of resources and tools to help researchers access current and important literature. The one book which I return to time and time again, as a scientist and avid reader, is the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. This deeply moving book highlights the importance of ethical awareness by scientists around the world to think about the humanity of what we do.’
