Open QuoteLibrary online access to databases in awful, and often going through Google, etc. gives better access. This is poor considering the fees being demanded.

Open QuoteIt would be beneficial for zones to be stated on each floor (A, B, C, etc.), so it is easy to identify a zone is- especially for text a talker; once the zone is identified, this makes it easier for the noise complaints to be dealt with by staff.

It would be nice to have disinfecting wipes available so desk surfaces and keyboards can be wiped down especially since this is dissertation and final exam season; this can help the prevention of germs spreading around making students sick.

The top floor of the library is extremely hot and stuffy; if fans can be provided esp for exam season, this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Open QuoteA lot students chatter endless and laugh loudly in quiet and silent study space which disturb others seriously. Hope library staffs can increase the frequency of inspection.

Open QuoteOne of our postgraduate students commented in our LibQUAL survey: 'On more occasions in the last year than ever before in my 4 years at ARU, I have identified scientific papers I would like to read for my assignments but which I don't have access to (Canadian Journal of Zoology is a particular resource which springs to mind, but not the only one).'

Open QuoteWe received this comment from one of our Computing & Information Sciences students through our survey in November: 'I frequently find electronic key materials missing, to the point where Googling the name of the paper plus the word PDF is more effective. When I can’t find things that way I use Library Genesis, which has a much bigger set of materials available for “permanent borrowing”.'

'The library services are generally good especially the online library. It is a very useful resource as it can be assessed anywhere. I have just a request, the textbooks for criminal law are a bit out of date, especially the recommended and essential text book. It is not even available in the library - Jonathan Herring 'Criminal law text cases and materials' 18th edition Oxford University Press 2018.

Open QuoteThe library in general is a great resource and the staff always helpful. My main complaint is that the library upper floors are always very stuffy and unpleasantly overheated. I would like to spend more time there but end up going elsewhere with books so that I don't get a headache. I often read the journals as there is an excellent collection but as you can't borrow them (understandably), I am put off from staying in and reading them as the library is so stuffy. Can you turn the air conditioning to cooler?

'The library is an excellent resource. In an ideal world the video library would have Bluray versions wherever available but I am a visually-literate "nerd" and know that this is not a big deal for most people.'

Open QuoteA LibQual comment from second year student at Chelmsford:

“I don’t believe the library is even big enough to accommodate all students, during exam time and coursework time there’s no real order in the library it’s loud and almost impossible to work. I complete the majority of my work in Marconi. Also Students that are working hard in the library shouldn’t have to leave their work and lose concentration to travel over to the prayer room to pray, this makes no sense and is particularly unfair during the winter. There should be a designated area in the library for prayers or at least in lord aschroft. There are also not enough study rooms, people should be able to book study rooms for a longer amount of time & also not just once a day. There are 24hrs in the day, if More >>

Open QuoteWe received this detailed comment through our LibQUAL survey:
'Hi, I'm studying Children's Book Illustration and I've been thinking that the collection of illustrated books in the library can be improved. I don't expect the library to have every book that is published in the UK. However, as it is a university library which supports Postgraduates as well as Undergraduates, it would be fair to hope to access awarded books, critically important books and example books in frequently-read critical research (at least those in reading lists, and hopefully those recently printed ones too). I also use the Cambridge University library and the public library for the resource. But in the ideal world, I would love to use our uni library more fully, as I am a student at ARU where the art and More >>

Happy environment, very helpful staff, well managed library equipments. We might need a free tea and coffee machine selfhelp service after 8pm because the Library is open sometimes 24 hours. Coffee and tea will keep us awake while studying late hours ( good for future doctors and nurses who like studying late in the evening or during the night). :) please!

I'm quite happy with all the system in general, my only complaint is about the fact that there is no one to replace the paper in the printers during the night, which makes it quite difficult when you are in the middle of printing something. I would suggest having a night staff member or maybe allow the security guard to do it!

Open QuoteAnother comment from our LibQUAL survey:
Tapping in every time and also it being tracked is a major concern for privacy reasons. A student could choose to access information from his room but still would be seen as not attending the library. I see no actual need for this kind of actions.

Open QuoteHello there,

I am a full time student and using the uni library almost 5 to 6 days a week for for long hours. I would like to bring to the notice that on second floor it is quite cold. I know there is some issues with the windows but heaters are not working either.

As weather is dropping to 3 to 4 degrees I think it is not safe weather for students and some actions should be taken on it.

Open QuoteOverall, I find the help in the library invaluable. However, I would benefit from greater IT skills. Perhaps availability of workshops increasing on campus and to access at the desk from a staff member. This is key to enhancing my essays and projects at the moment and I find it lacking.

Open QuoteReally like the library - very well equipped and staff very helpful. However, some things which would make the library better for me:

Opening Hours - especially during the weekends as I like to study throughout the night

Eating policy - I understand no hot food policy, however, as someone who needs to snack whilst studying, I would like to be able to bring snacks to the library.

Open QuoteThe computers having ‘LG’ screens are difficult to see through, as these have turned hazy by dust, fingerprint, oily patches, etc., due to lack of maintenance. Please get them cleaned by some fluid and a wiping cloth.
And the browsing history cannot be obtained from the latest ‘Dell’ computers with the CPU black boxes fitted adjacent to them. For revision of studies, availability of websites surfed in the past is necessary, as one cannot remember all the website names. See if this can be tackled.

Open QuoteHi there,

I'm currently procrastinating and thought I would leave a thank you comment.

I've never studied at Anglia Ruskin, having done my undergrad in Media, Culture and Society at Abertay University and now a MSc in International Relations at University of Dundee, but your Harvard guide is my go-to guide for referencing.

I've needed to reference a variety of sources, such as Lena Dunham's Girls during my dissertation, YouTube videos, or obscure undated Marxist texts - I would have been lost without your guide so thank you very much! Right, I better get back to my essay!
