Linking to Library Resources
It is possible to create a URL link to any book or journal article etc., available in the library’s collections or within the Digital Library. If you wish to insert such links into a web page, VLE page or a word document etc., you MUST follow the procedure outlined below or the links you create will not work properly or permanently.Contents:

1. Creating a URL link to the Library record for a (printed) BOOK
a. First search and retrieve the item you want to link to from the Library Website – Quick Search (books) in the usual way until you have arrived at the Library Items screen:
b. Copy the document number displayed within the long URL for the webpage in the browser location bar (somewhere in the URL it should read doc_number=), in this case: 000424929
c. Add this number to the following stem http://libweb.anglia.ac.uk/catitem?item=
d. The correct URL that will reach this page is http://libweb.anglia.ac.uk/catitem?item=000424929
2. Creating a URL link to an E-BOOK
First search and retrieve the item you want to link to in the Books, E-Books etc Search in the usual way. Click on the item title from the results display to get the “Library Items” display:
Copy the ISBN of the item into your clipboard (using CTRL+C)
Go to the Catlink
In the top box (Catalogue) paste the ISBN number and choose ISBN in the drop down
Click submit and copy the resulting URL to your clipboard
3. Creating a URL link to an E-Journal article (PDF)
a. First search and retrieve the item you want to link to in the Digital Library in the usual way either from Quick Search – Journal articles or from Advanced Search until you reach the Digital Library Journal articles results screen:
b. proceed to locate the article in question by clicking on the title of the item.
c. Click on the check full text
Click on the
Click on GO.
Copy the full URL in this window. You now have the correct URL in your clipboard memory.
If you cannot see the full URL in the browser address bar then you can right click, select "Properties" and capture the Address (URL) from this screen.

4. Creating a URL link to an E-Journal
Begin at the Website – Journal Finder function. Locate the item on the results list.
Clicking on the “Click here for access” text will take tou to the SFX options screen. Proceed from there as for Item 3. “Creating a URL link to an E-Journal article (PDF)”
5. Creating a URL link to a Library Database service
Use the Database Finder in the left hand menu (search or list) to to locate the resource.
Copy the web address (in this example http://darwin-online.org.uk) into your Document.
Users will be taken directly to the Database resource. They may then need to select "Institutional or Federation" then select Anglia Ruskin University. A User can then gain access with their University Login details.
6. Creating a URL link to an Anglia Ruskin Exam Paper (PDF)
Use the Digital Library -> Exam Papers in the left hand menu to to locate the resource.Open the resource by clicking on the title or "Click here for access".
Copy the web address (in this example http://heron.lib.anglia.ac.uk/docs/exam_papers/2009/science/ej315006s0109.pdf) into your Document.
APPENDIX – Embedding Links
This Guide cannot give complete advice on embedding the links derived above in various applications: websites, VLEs and in other contexts as the means to do this varies.a. On a website in HTML code a basic link is created on the following pattern: Linked text
b. In MS Word link creation proceeds as follows:
To create a link to a URL in a word document – Type in the text and highlight the text.
Click on the
Paste the URL from your clipboard into the Address box at the bottom and click OK.
