Your Library Login

To use the Digital Library and most library electronic resources you will need to use a "Library Login". You will also need this to renew or reserve books or other items, or to use the Library's self-service machines.

About your Library Login
Ask Us A Library Login consists of a library barcode number and password.

  • YOUR LIBRARY BARCODE NUMBER

Your 14-digit library barcode number is printed on the front of your Anglia Ruskin Student ID card or on the rear of your Staff ID card.

    Library Card
Library Barcode Number - omit spaces when logging-in. Your Library password is the DDMM of your birthday

Students: As a backup your library barcode number is also displayed on Anglia Ruskin's administrative portal "E-Vision" - you'll need your student ID no. (SID) to login to check this.

  • YOUR PASSWORD

Students: Unless you agreed a different password on joining the library or have subsequently changed it, your password is derived from the day and month of your date of birth. So, if your DOB is 17 August 1966 your password will be 1708. You can change your password at any time by logging in to the Library and selecting the "My Account". If you are a returning student your password should not have changed.

Staff: You will normally receive your password when you register with us. New staff need to register with the Library to obtain a password in person. Staff who have a query regarding their library barcode number/password should contact us in either online, by phone or in person.

Troubleshooting
N.B. You can only access Anglia Ruskin Library electronic resources with Library Login through this (i.e. the University Library's) website where you are asked to. Library Login won't work on a login page to a resource reached via a bookmarked page or search engine etc.

If you are having problems using Library Login you may get one of these error messages::

"Error in Verification"
This means that your library barcode number or password has not been accepted. Please complete the 14-digit Library number printed on your Anglia Ruskin University Card. It must be entered without any spaces.

"You are not entitled to access electronic resources"
Only Anglia Ruskin students and staff are entitled to access our electronic resources. If you think you are getting this message in error please bring your student ID card and ask at the Library Reception, Information Desk or contact us via our online enquiry service.

"Your account has expired"
If your account is not up to date you will get this message. If you think you are getting this message in error please bring your student ID card and ask at the Library Reception, Information Desk or contact us via our online enquiry service.

Other queries:

I have got to my journal from home but it will only allow me to read the abstract. How do I get full text?

Some of our suppliers are unable to detect Library Login automatically. You need to click on the link "Athens Login" often found on the top right corner of the suppliers site. You should not be asked for another password. After you have done this you should have full text access. We are working to resolve this problem.

I am asked for another Password when I enter a resource or after selecting the "Athens Login" link.

If you have already logged in with Library Login, your web browser may not be accepting cookies. To fix this problem,

Open Internet Explorer.
In the Tools Menu, select Internet Options.
In the Privacy tab select the "Default" button and ensure that the slider is set to Medium.

You can also set your Cookie options manually by selecting the Advanced button.

Digital Library access for users in NHS and Government institutions

Some users may encounter problems accessing the Digital Library from places with "Secured" network access, e.g. Hospital and Government Networks. We provide a workaround for this but we don't guarantee that this works perfectly in all circumstances- you'll need your University Login details*

Please go to:

https://extranet.che.anglia.ac.uk

Please say " Yes" to any certificate warnings you get.You will then need to select "Digital Library" from the list and Login with your Library Login to the Digital Library. You should then have full access to all our Digital Library resources as if you were on a standard unsecured network.

If for some reason you find that this won't work please contact us via our online enquiry service and describe what happened. Did an error pop up or get displayed on your screen? Did something else happen ? were you unable to get to or use a resource ? if so which one?

* This is the password that you use to log on to a university owned PC or student email inbox. Students on campus can also seek help at the library IT helpdesks, or via email to student-ithd@anglia.ac.uk. Staff should contact ISMS Customer Support on Ext 4357 or externally via 0845 196 4357.
