Interlibrary Loan
If you find that a book, dissertation or journal article that you're looking for is not stocked by us, then we can usually obtain it for you through our Interlibrary Loan service.
If you are searching for a postgraduate dissertation please check the British Library EThOS service for free access first.
There is a non-refundable charge of £2 per item for an interlibrary loan.
To use this service you should complete a book or an article request form. Enter as much information as possible on the request form.
Requests submitted will only be processed upon payment (£2.00 per item).
Payment for interlibrary loans can be in person in any of the site libraries, by cheque in the post with your details and request number, by credit/debit card over the phone or by e-voucher with your details and request number by email. Pre-paid non-refundable E-vouchers can be purchased in advance in person in any of the site libraries or by phone via credit/debit card.

Collecting your requested item
If you've requested a journal article this will be sent to you by post for your retention. For other items, we'll inform you by post or e-mail when it is available for collection (or, in the case of some theses) for use in the library. Interlibrary loans can only be collected from and must be returned to, the site where the original request was made.
Most requests for journal articles are satisfied within 14 days and requests for books within 21 days - but it is always advisable to make your request as far as possible in advance. Some items may take longer.
Please note that the MINIMUM replacement fee charged for the loss of a book obtained on Interlibrary Loan is £141.60.
